Kursbeschreibung
Golden Elixir Qigong – The Pearl of the Dragon is an advanced practice of Taoist energy cultivation within the Universal Healing Tao® System, developed by Grandmaster Mantak Chia. The course brings together breath, saliva, the sense organs, sexual energy, the energies of Nature, Cosmic Chi, and Universal Chi, along with the internal power of the hands and fingers. Rather than turning outward, awareness is gathered inward, refined, and returned to the Lower Tan Tien. This concentrated inner essence is symbolized by the Golden Elixir, the Golden Nectar, and the Pearl of the Dragon, giving the practice its name.
Foundations of Golden Elixir Qigong
Golden Elixir Qigong – The Pearl of the Dragon is an advanced Taoist energy-cultivation practice within the Universal Healing Tao® System, developed by Grandmaster Mantak Chia. In the language of Taoist Inner Alchemy, different essences are gathered, refined, combined, and then stored as the basis for further cultivation. The practice is not concerned with a single physical substance. It represents a process of gathering different internal and external qualities of Chi, combining them consciously, and returning them to the central energetic reservoir of the body.
Saliva and Breath as Alchemical Media
Saliva has a long history within Chinese longevity and cultivation practices, and in Golden Elixir Qigong it becomes one of the central media through which internal practice is experienced. The tongue, mouth, salivary glands, breathing, and focused awareness are brought together as saliva is gathered consciously, combined with the energetic quality generated through the practice, and guided toward the Lower Tan Tien. Breathing provides the further energetic foundation, coordinated with attention, the sense organs, the mouth, and the movement of Chi. The practitioner learns to experience inhalation as receiving and gathering, while exhalation supports relaxation, integration, and internal circulation. Breath and saliva together transform ordinary bodily functions into instruments of inner cultivation.
The Senses and Hair Breathing
Ordinarily, attention moves continuously outward through seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and sensory experience, but Golden Elixir Qigong reverses part of this movement so that awareness is gathered back inward. The energetic qualities associated with the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and mouth are progressively returned toward the center, conserving and recycling attention and energy that would otherwise flow outward through the senses. One of the practice's distinctive exercises, Hair Breathing, visualizes the hairs of the body as fine antennae connecting the practitioner with the surrounding environment. During the receiving phase, Chi is drawn inward through this expanded field; during the returning phase, surplus energy is gathered back into the body and stored in the Lower Tan Tien. The exercise develops the sense that breathing and energetic exchange are not confined to the nose and lungs, so that the entire body becomes part of the field of awareness.
Nature, Cosmic, and Universal Elixir
Golden Elixir Qigong distinguishes three progressively wider qualities of external Chi. The first, Nature Elixir, draws on the imagery of trees, plants, mountains, water, and sunlight to expand awareness beyond the limits of the physical body and develop a felt sense of relationship with the natural world. The second, Cosmic Elixir, moves attention beyond the immediate environment toward the wider field surrounding the Earth, linking the practice to the broader principles of Cosmic Healing. The third, Universal Elixir, works with Universal Chi, the larger energetic field associated with Heaven and the cosmos, bringing this expansive awareness into a very intimate physical practice. In each stage the practitioner alternates between expansion and return, and the gathered quality is consolidated in the Lower Tan Tien, illustrating the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm central to Taoist internal cultivation.
Sexual Energy and Gathering the Essences
Golden Elixir Qigong also incorporates the principles of sexual-energy cultivation found in Healing Love and the foundational practices of Inner Alchemy. Within Taoist Inner Alchemy, Jing is regarded as a fundamental essence that can be conserved, circulated, and progressively refined, and the practice relates this essence to saliva, breathing, and the internal energetic process. Sexual energy is treated not only in terms of reproduction but as a powerful form of vitality that can be integrated into broader cultivation. The central alchemical image of the practice is one of gathering and mixing, in which breath joins awareness, saliva joins internal Chi, sexual essence joins the energetic process, and the Nature, Cosmic, and Universal energies are symbolically gathered together with the senses' returning attention. These elements are combined into the image of one refined Elixir, illustrating the Inner Alchemy principle that the many are gathered into the one.
The Pearl and the Dragon
The image of the Pearl appears repeatedly in Taoist energetic symbolism, representing something small, concentrated, luminous, and complete. Within Golden Elixir Qigong, it provides an experiential image for concentrated essence, through which awareness gathers energy into a coherent inner center rather than allowing it to remain diffuse. One of the practice's characteristic exercises is known as The Dragon Gazes at the Pearl, or in different translations, The Dragon Fixes the Pearl. The dragon represents dynamic movement, transformation, and energetic power, while the pearl represents condensed essence and centered awareness. Their relationship expresses a core principle of the practice, that dynamic energy requires a center, movement requires stillness, and expansion must eventually return to concentration.
Golden Elixir Movement Practices
Harvesting the Golden Earth Medicine connects the practitioner with Earth Force, as awareness reaches downward toward the Earth and then returns upward into the body, with the gathered quality incorporated into the Elixir. Here, the word medicine belongs to traditional Taoist alchemical terminology, referring to a refined energetic ingredient rather than a medical drug. Spinning the Silk and Swinging the Leg introduces movement into the Elixir process through a spiral motion connecting the legs, waist, Lower Tan Tien, spine, arms, and hands. The image of spinning silk expresses continuity, and the movement should remain smooth enough that the energetic connection is never broken, a principle familiar from other Internal Martial Arts and Qigong practices. Golden Elixir Qigong applies this principle specifically to the gathering and circulation of the Elixir.
Tan Tien and Five Finger Gongfu
The Lower Tan Tien remains the principal place of storage, following the Universal Healing Tao® principle of first gathering, then refining, then storing the energy drawn through the senses, breathing, saliva, and the wider energetic field. In the language of Taoist Inner Alchemy it is often described as a cauldron, the alchemical vessel in which the practice's various energetic essences are combined and transformed by awareness and breathing. A further component of the practice, Five Finger Gongfu, develops the relationship between the Lower Tan Tien, arms, hands, palms, and individual fingers, training them as extensions of whole-body structure rather than as isolated muscles. Because the hands are especially sensitive and capable of precise movement, Golden Elixir Qigong cultivates this sensitivity so that the Tan Tien, spine, shoulders, arms, palms, and fingers form one continuous energetic relationship. This work with the hands also provides a bridge toward the hand practices found in Cosmic Healing Qigong.
Training and Certification
Candidates entering the Inner Alchemy Qigong Instructor Level 2 education path must first be certified in all four Level 1 disciplines and have at least 6 months of Level 1 practice and teaching experience, after which Level 2 requires a minimum of 40 additional workshop hours, including at least 10 hours of Basic Inner Alchemy training and 30 hours across the four Level 2 disciplines. Certification as an Inner Alchemy Qigong Instructor Level 2 requires successful evaluation in at least one of these four disciplines, and Golden Elixir Qigong may be selected for that evaluation, recorded under the key GEQ, with the remaining disciplines added through later evaluations. The official Golden Elixir Qigong – Five Finger Gongfu workshop with Grandmaster Mantak Chia is presented as a 2-day training containing approximately 11 hours of video instruction and 10 UHT certification hours. Its principal areas of practice include Golden Elixir and saliva cultivation, breathwork, Hair Breathing, Nature, Cosmic, and Universal Elixir, sexual-energy integration, storage in the Lower Tan Tien, and Five Finger Gongfu. The workshop therefore provides one of the principal recognized training components for the Golden Elixir Qigong discipline within the UHT Inner Alchemy Qigong Instructor Level 2 education path.
